Does anyone know where I can get a connector or pigtail to plug into the factory stereo harness. I am creating my own stereo harness and instead of hacking up the factory harness I want to make it plug and play much like the Hawg-Wired system, but they currently don't offer the pig tail as a stand alone unit and it will not be available for a while yet.
If I could find someone who makes the connector and or the pig tail this would save me from having to cut the end off my factory harness and or splicing into the lines which I don't want to have to do either.
Yea I already have an email into Mike at BikeTronics, but I am not holding my breath since his unit isn't a wiring harness but more of a module. Maybe I will get lucky though.
Jeff, don't have a vendor, but the HD Base Audio Connector is a 23 place AMP female connector; so you need the corresponding 23 place male AMP connector and the pins to attach to the wires to insert them into the connector.
Thanks Carl... This will change the way I do my searching now that I now what the connector is called and maybe I can come up with something. All the other parts are on the way from Hawg-Wired (Speakers and Amp) so I am on schedule to do this installation this weekend.
Might be a quick trip to Radio Shack. I haven't seen one but it sounds like a DB25 male or female connector which they have. Be careful you don't overheat the little solder cups on the pins or the pins will get out of alignment.
I have gotten a little closer. The connector on the wiring harness is an AMP 23 Female part number 770680-1 but all I can find is the male board connector and I need a wire to wire connector. My brother is an AMP dealer so I have him looking for me now.
Jeff, let us know what you find for the connector. I did a Google search and found the board connector, but not the seperate male connector. Good luck with the search.
Also, at the back of my '04 HD Service Manual, there is a chart showing the function, type, and location of the various connectors on the bike. That's where I found the reference to the Amp connector and subsequently confirmed it during the Google search--saw pictures of the Amp female connector--identical to the Base Audio Connector.
I will, I turned the same thing up as you did, but my brother seems to think that he was able to locate the male wire to wire connector in his system. He is looking to see if they are available locally and will get back to me with the part numbers. Depending on cost I will get several of each as I am sure someone will do a project like this and need one.
Well I just confirmed with an AMP dealer that they do not make a wire to wire Male connector. The only connector they make for this female plug is a wire to board in both a straight (part # 776200-1) and a right angle.
