i feel ya man, a few years ago me and dad went to daytona and we drove from chatt tn to the other side of atl ga in the damn rain, it sucked when we stopped I had flipped water dripping outa my boots
Blauer makes what i think is the best. The one i have keeps me dry and even warm when it is cold, also has vents and removable liner. Even reflective stripes so that you look cool.
The rain suit works in a pinch in cold or cool weather too. I did a day trip across Virginia on I-81 last fall that started early in the morning. When I got up in elevation, the temps dropped into the 30s and I only had a vest and single sweater. Put the rain jacket on and things were fine till the sun came up and things warmed up.
I have a HD rain suit that works great and am also ordering a suite made by Frogg Toggs called the Road Toad which is made for motorcycle riding $49.95, they are light weight, waterproof and breathable. Might be better for summertime riding. Here's where I got mine www.thegearlessmachine.com
Free shipping and a 15 day return policy less the shipping if you don't like it.
I keep asking Hubby if we should buy rain gear for the vacation. So far we have not bothered in 3 years we have only hit heavy rain (enough to soak through some layers) twice but once was in Hawaii and it was more fun that way [&:]. Otherwise most of what we have hit has been light or persistant. Not that we don't go anywhere just been lucky I guess.
Hubby figures if it is that hard we should stop and waitit out. I keep telling him we won't have time for that on this trip but he insists that it will be fine.
I agree that if you hit a storm while riding it's usually too late to suit up because your likely already wet but sometimes you just have to start in the rain and it might be nice to stay dry
161/2 hours in the rain going to Daytona this year was still a good ride, I was dry. FXRG jacket fron H~D and Joe Rocket pants with cruiserworks boots. Riding in the rain beat any day I had working including paydays.
Rode my 08 ultra for 4 hours in hard rain last weekend, found out a few things about my rain gear, it did not work, had the harley cheep rain suit and it leaked around my waist, my cheep rain gloves (not harley brand) soaked through in about an hour, my full face helmet would fog up and I had to crack it open and that let water in, but I cain't complain because I chose to ride, but next time I will be prepared better. The bike never missed a beat, just set the cruise and went on.
Yeah, been there, done that. The only thing worse for me was riding through a tropical storm, which was heavy rain plus strong wind, or maybe a t'storm with hail. Your rain pants shouldn't leak if you are wearing a rain jacket, which should fit low and protect the waistline. I have an old HD rain jacket, Tourmaster Elite rain pants, HD gaiters, and HD glove covers (mittens). I've never seen a pair of truly waterproof gloves, so years ago I bought a pair of HD mittens, which are nothing more than covers for gloves. They keep the water out and are good even if you aren't wearing gloves to keep your hands dry and keep water from running up your sleeve. They don't make these anymore, unfortunately.
I will probably sell my gaiters since my new lowers will keep my feet dry. Face protection is a problem for me now since the helmet I now have, an HD 3/4, has a complex method of installing and removing a face shield, and I normally don't ride with one. I don't need to be futzing with the shield with a t'storm bearing down on me. So, I usually just let my face get wet and let the sunglasses keep the water out of my eyes. Still trying to work through this problem.
Don't sell the rain gators even if you have the fairing lowers. If you have to slow down or stop at a light or whatever the lowers want protect your feet then, trust me, I know, and there is nothing worse than having soggy boots to walk around in for a few days. I wear the rain suit, HD overboots, and a 1/2 helmet with a 3 snap visor and when I see the rain coming I snap on theflip up rain shield which helps keep most of the rain off my glasses. It's hard to see with rain drops on the outside of the glasses but even worse when the rain gets on the inside of the lenses.
