Default Ultra Classic question

How much work and money is involved with making that whole tour pak/rear seat detachable? I am trying to decide which model to buy. Also does anyone know what is in store for 2009 with HD. I wanna know if I should hold out for 2009 model. Thanks, Mark

Don't waste your money on the quick detatch stuff, you won't want to take it off. I thought I wanted it too, untill I had the tourpack on the bike. Then I realized how much more storage I have, and how much easier it is to use the tour pack instead of the saddlebags.

If you want good information regarding what's coming in 2009 I would suggest you write to Willie G. Davidson at Harley Davidson Motor Company in Milwaukee WI. He might forward information after the dealer meeting. Or you can wait until after the dealer meeting and ask your local dealer. Everything you hear between now and the dealer meeting in July is unsubstantiated rumor.

Just so you know you will lose your CB antenna when you go the route of doing detachables. That being said if you want to listen to your radio you will need kit # 53303-07 MSRP $329.95. That kit gives you the docking kit, tour pack rack, antenna relocation kit, chrome license plate holder and reflector. This is a project you can do yourself. The wires going to the 2 rear speakers unplug easily, the CB antenna unscrews, the tour pack lighting unplugs and then all you have to do is roll this stuff up and hide it under your seat. By going solo you will also probably want to look into buying a solo seat of some sort. The stock seat on the bike without the tour pack looks kinda funky to me.

Do those fairing lowers really do anything? I could get the model without the tour pak and add it if I need it.

I have a 2005 ultra and I love having 3 bikes in one. Have the touring pack, back rest, or go without anything. I put 4 disconnect plugs under the seat and a hidden antenna under the fairing and the hardest part of anything is removing the seat! I say go for it!

Not true, I take mine off whenever I'm not going on a trip. For everyday use and local trips, I stripped down and loving it!
