I ride at night all the time. Just got back from bike night Douglasville Ga.. I live in the country and there are tons pf deer around here , but in 2.5 years I have never seen one when I was on the bike. I think they can here the pipes and are more cautious than with cars? If thats the case I better get them ovals on the ultra!!! What about them deer whistles??
I worked in a body shop for 7 years ,and I never fixed a car that hit a deer that had whistles on it.
I am not saying it doesn't happen, but what you got to loose.
I ride at night several times a week basically when ever i ride to work which is everday unless a monsoon rain is pooring.
I live in ohio and see alot of deer.
My dad hates me riding at night and doesn't do it himself unless he gets caught.
Me i like it like mentioned already i can ride 40 miles home from work and i may only see 10 cars and i like the night air and relaxation after a long day of work. Get a good Bright headlight take your time and cruise and enjoy a very good part of riding that you are missing.
I have almost hit two deer last year very close and you know what time it was noon middle of the day sun shinning bright.
I donât do much night riding myself but occasionally real early morning going to work I am in the dark. I am thinking about trying some of those deer whistles, there was a biker killed hitting a deer just east of town two years ago. It canât hurt nothing but like the one guy said with the loud pipes maybe that helps also. Buuuttttttt in the fall of the year during the RUT you could be driving a tank and they would run out in front of you.
Might be a little off-topic, but here goes.
Do those deer-whistle things help or not?
Keep your speed above 125 mph and the deer whistles work well - I personally avoid night riding at all costs. It does happen, but, only as a last resort (finding a motel with a vacancy sign).
I ride at night every day. I work in the casinos in the mountains here in Blackhawk, Colorado. Then I ride down into Denver. 1 hour each way. I get off at midnight when all the drivers are half drunk. Makes the ride even more scary. That is why I don't wear a helmet. If I get hit by a drunk driver I want to die right away.
Are deer whistles like dog whistles? WHy would anyone want to call a deer? Here deer, here boy....
I have heard that if you wear bright orange over camies, the likelihood of actually seeing a deer decreases incrementally. If you take a shotty and mount it to the bars, he's almost guaranteed to run at least a mile before you even get close to him, and that's after you hit him with a round.
I am not a fan of riding at night. Deer and bad night vision make it a not so pleasant experience. I would ride to work alot more but I never know when I am getting off so alot of times it ends up being after dark. Just tonight after working 14 hours and the 35 mile commute home 3 deer ran out in front of me 1/4 mile from my house.[:@]
