Fat Boy is great for short trips, but for eating miles, it's the SG.

I just traded my 07 Fat Boy for my 08 Street Glide. The SG is way more comfortable. Even the stock seat is pretty good. The big difference was the vibration of the SG. When at idle your hands want to shake off the bars. When you take off it rides smooth like a Cadillac!

Having had a fatboy and trading it on an SG... I can tell you SG. Air shocks, longer suspension travel, and heavier make for a better ride. It's a no brainer.

I ride both. The '98 Fat Boy for trips less than 100 miles, the '08 Street Glide for 100+. I have yet to have the pleasure of riding an '08 Fat Boy so I can't comment on how they would compare to a'08 Street Glide. However, I would still bet the barn that I would prefer the Street Glide for the longer rides.

I just traded my '06 Deluxe for a SG a couple days ago. The difference between the two bikes is night and day. The SG is such a better ride! Way more comfortable, so smooth, its amazing how much better it rides. And of course the tunes

Very well said!
ORIGINAL: Ultra007

It would depend on what you mean by "more comfortable".
Comfort as far as as how the bike fits someone, of course depends on the person. Most all bikes can be "customized" to fit most riders, so in that regard, they are both the same.
As far as ridability, the SG is a superior road machine and will actually be easier to handle in town as well. The difference in the front end rake makes the glide an easier bike to manuever.
Having a full fairing as compared to a removable windshield is night and day. The full fairing bike will offer much more protection from the wind. Cruise control, which can be added to the Fattie, is much easier on the glide. A real radio is icing on the cake.
The glide's air shocks,or even progressive types, make the ride much softer especially if riding two up. In the corners, again, the glide's suspension is made for this.
The fattie has a "b motor" that will not vibrate as much at idle maybe but while riding it will be felt and gets annoying.
The glide's "a motor" is rubber mounted and is much smoother on the road. Iwill admit that a baggers motor at idle is doing quite a dance but is still smoother while underway. Now add performance parts to a bagger motor with a bunch of compression and big cams, and that "a motor" looks like a monkey f*****g a football at idle but still well worth the trade off.

I feel that I am somewhat qualified to be objective as I am an ex-Softail guy with an Ultra. My wife rides my "old" Heritage and loves it, but she doesn't know any better. LOL Sweet Softail but nothing like a bagger. And after all the Heritage and the Fattie are basically the same bike, and in a high crosswind, you'll wish you had the Heritage!! The wind on those solid wheels creates kind of a undercutting feel.
I used to say I wouldn't ride a bagger until I turned 70 years old. Geezer Glide stigma I guess.
I suppose if you only ride in town to bike nights or something like that, the Fatass, I mean Fatboy is a great machine.
Any amount of road duty tips it to the Whiner Glide, I mean Street Glide. LOL Inside joke, I'm sorry.
The extra storage in the glide's saddlebags is awesome too. Can't live without bags!

Good luck,
U

I as well as a buddy have both ridden 07 Fatboys on a rental ride. Both of us complained of a sore **** after 2 hours of riding them. A streetglide (which I own) is a completely different sled. Better suspension, better frame, better features, and the A motor to a B motor is also different. There is simply no comparing the two bikes IMHO. One's a boulevard crusier while the other is a Hotrod Styled Touring bike. They ride totally different and the Glide will have you smiling for years. The FB will have you screaming to trade for as long as you own it.

Just my humble opinion is all!

I think i've convinced myself on a touring over a softail.

I sat on a 06 RK Custom during lunch and liked the feel of it. I've ridden my wife's Fatboy and while it's a comfortable ride, i'm not going to make the same mistake twice and discover there's something more comfortable out there i should have gone with, again.

Now, i think i'm torn over the model. While i love the SG, i also dig the RK. Problem is, i really only like the RK custom without all the crap on it, but since they aren't making that model any longer, i go with an older one or not one at all.

All being said and done, i appreciate everyone's input. And for the record, my response on the softail board was kind of weak. You guys are either huge fanatics (check), know what's truly the best (questionable) or the softail guys are closet touring fans (likely).

thanks again!

One other suggestion is to go to a H-D demo day and ride both bikes, or even rent one for the day.

And any SG or RK becomes a custom quickly enough.....
