Camping
If you want some of the best riding in the country, come to Montana. See Glacier Nat'l Park, it's stunning, Flathead Lake, and some of the sweetest roads you've ever been on. I retired 5 years ago at age 55, and I've been riding out here ever since. British Columbia, and Alberta are nice too, but gas there is really outrageous. Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho all have great riding, and millions of places to camp. It's a snap finding them while you're out on the road. Locals love to tell you the best places to stay. Just have your tent, sleeping bag, and rain gear for some occassional summer snows. Good Riding, CCRyder
PS>>>And pack some protection, for that nosey bear that might slip into camp. S&W 629 (no rust) 3inch and magnaported.

Go to the KOA web site they will send you a free directory of all their campgrounds. I have used it many times and always found them to be clean, safe and motorcycle friendly.
Have a great trip, I'm in the process of planning 3-4 week cross country trip next year.

If you are not a member, find a local office and go there. Join and then get your stuff
I did this yesterday. They gave me individual maps for each state, camping books, attraction books and just about everything you can imagine. It took two bags to cary out the stuff
No cost beyond your membership.
I also ordered trip tiks. They detail my route and show me every possible thing along my route from restaurants, sites to see, camping locations, etc.

most states have a site for free maps, camping touring favorite spots etc.also army corp. of engineers for free camping.Almost anything you can think of that gets people outdoors will have free or real cheap camping[don,t laugh]birdwatching, gold and or silver panning, backpacking, almost everything. Most are primitive,no showers or outhouses thats what truckstops are for, 5 maybe 6 bucks for a clean towel and a hot shower 24hrs a day.Remember when in the woods dont eat where you sleep, you automatically invite everything else to dinner. No thrill quite comes close to waking up in the middle of the night hearin somethin rolling your empty soup can around and you have managed to push your 44 to the bottom of your sleepin bag!
Try these two sites. We use them everytime we plan a trip. We camp when we tour. Stay on two lane roads and stay in the smaller towns. Some have free camping in the city park for the first one to three days

go to a camper dealer in your area, they should have a book of campgrounds across the country. i cant remember what its called though. cost around $30 but they actually send poeple to all the campgrounds then rate them and tell you about the acomodations.
AAA and Motel 6 and midweek specials (5 star room in Vegas $150, Laughlin or Mesquite $25), a warm shower and a soft bed make all the difference at the end of a long day. Congrats! Unless you want to look like the Beverly Hillbillies, look at a trailer. Specailized back packer stuff is generally smaller and lighter and more mc compatible but also more expensive. I'll see you out there.
