the instruments and radio are water resistant not water proof.
like the stuff in a boat. it wont hurt for them to get wet just dont spray a hard stream diretcly into them.
i use a hose with no nozzel. just let the water run right out.
no problems so far.

I just wash by hand and not spray any water right at the dash. I blow dry the bike with a 215 mph leaf blower. Works great and cheaper than the one at the dealer.

I hate using a hose because I found on my old bike all the hardware became corroded from the water hardness.
Try the Mr Clean auto dry car wash. I just use the spray unit and cartridge on the hose. I have turtle wax Ice wash that goes in a bucket for my mitt. The sprayer has a filter in it that when you are done washing you turn the dial to rinse and start rinsing from the top down. Broke this out and washed both bikes two days ago, no hard water spots at all.

I have used a home garden hose on 01 standard and now on my 08 ultra. I try not to spray directly onto the dash and I have never had a problem.

Car washing soap and water. No high pressure. Pretty simple. People are way too paranoid about washing their bikes.

I'd think that especially the high pressure wash, but to a lesser extenteven the leaf blower would cause some micro scratches in the paint.

I loosen the bugs on the fairing with a hot, wet, terry cloth towel -- just laid over fairing and allowed to soak. A little dabbing on the really stuck bug guts but no rubbing or scrubbing!
Then, I clean with Pig Snot and micro fiber towel.

Detail, hand wax, and I'm done -- in a couple of days!

Except for rain, my Street Glide has never been wet.
It's probably OK to use a garden hose and let the water pour out without much force. I'd definitely avoid high pressure.

Our city water is pretty hard as well and will leave spots. But I wash the bike like most, rinse it with distilled water, then dry with towel/chamios/blow dryer.

+1 Same here except I use S100 Wax + Detail, I haven't used the garden hose in two years.

I use soap and water from the hose. I just don't blast the dash directly. Usually wipe the dash down last with the cloth I used to dry the rest of the bike while it's nice and damp.
