I've got a 1990 Electra Glide Classic with 24000 miles on it. Lately the engine will hiccup as I'm ridding, usallyjust after Iback off the throttle and begin to accelerate. Any ideas? Do I need my carb rebuilt? I think I'm ready for a new battery. Could that cause this problem?
In those year bike this was common casue by wear and the slide sticking.
Do some home work but you may find it is time for a carb upgrade the newer design with plastic slides do not have that problem, it coiuld be other things with out see it hard to tell but if they standard fixes don't work bet on it good luck
It sounds like you are describing a lean condition. As Smitty said, I think that wear can cause this.
I am not familiar with a Harley carb, so this next question may cause those that know to LOL. Does your carb have a fuel enrichment circuit, such as an accelerator pump?
I assume that the engine does this warm and is not a choke problem.
I used to have an ultra with a carb. It started leaning out, which caused backfire and hiccups, on a ride down the Natchez Trace. Got worse all day. Got it home and started diagnostics. Problem was the black rubber boots connecting the "Y"intake manifold to the heads had cracked. Easy fix at home in the garage with tools, not so easy on the side of the road.
