Default New Road Glide - Finally!

I picked up my shiny new RG yesterday morning after a sleepless night. Actually got to the dealer a hour early because I couldn't wait any longer. Kudos to the guys at Steve Drane HD in Victoria (Ron especially!) for making the whole process as painless and easy as possible. They did a great job!

First impressions - man, this bike is way bigger than anything I've ever rode before but is sure is gorgeous! I was a little nervous leaving the dealer lot with the usual Saturday morning crowd hanging around but I just wheeled her out like I knew what I was doing and hit the highway north for home.

Handling - very impressive for such a big bike. Once I got the feel it was light and nimble, much better than I had expected. Maybe even easier to ride than my Roadster.

Engine and drive train - I was taking it pretty easy doing the break in but by the end of the 165 mile run I was working it a bit and the power felt pretty good. I'll start running the revs up some when I get a few more miles on her. I had the dealer install the SE a/c with Stage 1 reprogram and a set of V&H Ovals and did notice a fair bit of decel popping. I've got a set of Nightrider IED's to install that might help with that. The Ovals are a bit louder that I might like for long distance runs so we'll see about that later.

About the only negative is something I've read about here and sure enough I've got it - serious head buffetting at hwy speeds! Very annoying and definetely took some of the pleasure out of the ride. I'm vertically challenged (5'6") so the stock windshield is way too tall for me so I'll be searching back through previous threads for ideas for a replacement screen. Oh yeah, I hate the heel shifter and that's coming off today. Got a spacer from Kuryakin.

All in all, I'm pretty happy and I figure a few mods will fit the bike to me perfectly and I'll be making that cross country trip I've been planning for such a long time. It's pouring rain this morning so today will be spent adding a Wheeldock centre stand, IED's and general spit and polish.

Thanks for reading this long post and any suggestions or comments on setting up the scoot are welcome.

Have fun. My parents live on the island and I've dealt with Steven Drane before..Good people. If you get a chance, ride up to Duncan and check out Arrow custom Choppers. Just before the bridgeon the Victoria side of Duncan. The coolest shop I've ever been to.

Have fun with the new scoot and congratulations.

Whiskers, Crimson Red Sunglow. Beautiful colour, kinda dark and subdued until the sun hits it then the gold flake just lights it up.

Congrats on that new RG!

Might want to try a Klockwerks windshield (12 incher). Smooths out airflow for me.

Most of my buffeting and noise is coming from a KBC full-face modular helmet, not the windshield.

Be buying a new helmet soon.

Congrats on the new roadie! Those nite rider ied's actually work really well. I put a set on my new roadie and couldnt believe how much cooler the motor ran for a $100 investment! There is no need to pull the seat off either, the rear 02 sensor wire is plugged in by the starter, real simple job, much quicker if you don't follow the directions!

BCGuy: I have the same bike and the same color. Love it! I am 5'11" tall and had the same problem with the OEM windshield. I changed to the Klockeworks 12" and eliminated the buffeting. It did lower the position where the wind hits my face to about right at the eyes. I wear a full-faced helmet !00% so the additional wind in the face doesn't bother me as long as my head is not bouncing around. ............ BC
