I have the bagger for 2-up or long trips and the Indian (Scout, obviously, sort of like a softtail) for cruising the shorter runs, but I want to add a Buell Ulysses for some sporty, adventure type riding. Are we counting the multitude of dirt bikes?
I didn't know there was any sort of limit to how many made sense, but that registration/insurance thing really is a hassle (and expensive).
Not recognizing any set number may be why I've been divorced for 9 years...
If you are looking for a "No it does not make any sense to own 2 bikes" type of reply, your definently asking the wrong crowd. I don't know any biker that won't want to own more than one bike.
My 04 Fatboy was my first street bike and I never thought I would ride as mush or as long as I did and decided I needed more comfort so I decided to buy the 05 Road Glide so now I have one for around town and one for taking trips, I don't believe in trailering to Bike Week, to each his own but riding is part of the adventure. I can think of a couple more I would like to have, but I don't think that would go over to well with the wife.
I look at it this way. Say you meet this girl who really knows how to cook, cleans your apartment, does your laundry, and is very pleasant. Then you meet this girl who is a knockout and all she wants to do is.......well....of course it makes sense to have two bikes!
