Wife and I went on a bike ride this past Saturday with the local Hog Chapter Group. We filled up at the local gas station (Shell). I always purchase the V-Plus gasoline since the octane is usually 93.
On the ride the ride to Clinton, IL., the bike road fine. After we ate at Mr. Ted's in Clinton. We followed the group to the gas station. The bike started to idle really rough. It started to idle around 650rpm to 400rmp. Lunging up and down on the idle. Then the bike would die. At this time the bike only had 70+ miles on it after filling it up. Normal idle for this bike is around 950rpm to 1000rpm...
This was not the first ride of the year for us. And I am thinking mabye we picked up some water in the tank when we filled up.
After making it back home, and only doing 170 round trip for the day. The bike started to run correctly, and idling fine.
I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem with their bike. Or maybe I should just chulk it up to water in the tank from that gas station.
The only way that you'll know if it was the gas is to drain it and replace with fresh gas. If you drain it into a clear container, you will be able to see if it has water in it. You could try dry gas if you think its water in the gas.
I can't remember where I read it but I recently read anarticle that said the US is buying 13% of its gasoline from foreign countries. That's gasoline not crude oil and a lot ofother countries don't refine their products to the same level as the US. FYI
