Gased up for a ride this past weekend and noticed a little sign on the pump, "Gas may contain up to 10% Ethanol". I didn't give it too much thought, I know the owners manual says it is ok to run ethanol mix up to 10%. bike ran fine, as a matter of fact thought it ran real good...I have an 08 EGC was riding two up with my g/f. I got almost 40 MPG, a little higher than I normally get while two up in mostly city driving. I wonder if it is just the bike breaking in (although I have 3800 miles on her) or if the ethanol helped it get better. Either way it was a good ride and I am enjoying this central florida weather.
That's strange. Ethanol always kills my MPG. I try to stay away from putting it in my bike. When I put it in my truck, I go from 22 MPG/HWY to between 16 and 17 MPG. I haven't ever heard anything good about the stuff and try to avoid it if possible.
Rox, this was my first experience with it. Only have a couple of stations in my hometown and both now carry it. Like I said she ran good, no problems whatsoever. It could have been just my bike settling in, although at 3800 miles, I doubt it. Will keep you posted. By the way, Semper Fi, Marine.
Yer lucky.. we have had it in SE Wisconsin now for a long time.. only supposed be the 8 SE counties.. but I have seen it starting to creep slowly northward....
That's all we've had here in Norhern Illinois for the past 15 years or more. All our gas is 10% ethanol. Straight gas will get you better mileage though
I run 10% ethanol all the time. Can't really tell the difference except when I buy groceries. Ethanol is a hoax. It should be done away with. Its not the answer to our energy problems. May be we should get some of the oil we have in this country and build some refineries. Now were importing gasoline.....sigh.
I can count on loosing between 3-5 MPG with it in my 06 Electraglide! It's becoming harder to find "real" gas in my area. So far only Sunoco and SOME Shell stations are still selling 100% gas.
Its the only thing you can buy in Oregon now. The only advantage is it is less prone to detonation. You probably could drop a grade and not have a problem. Oregon thinks it cleaner burning. And yes Miles to gallon usually suffer.....
Less BTU's per volume measure with ethanol compared to gasoline. It does work in the 90/10% ratio that is being mandated in many areas. I agree that the US maybe using less imported petroleum when we mix ethanol in, but the cost to produce ethanol and the production by-products probably outweigh any benefit.
