Dropped the bike off Saturday for new tires, an' ta git the 20k service done. Ah generally do all mah own service, but since the 20k an' tires hit 'bout the same time (and ah'm busier'n a one-armed hooker at a fleet arrival), figgered ta let 'em take care of it fer me. Went by today ta git stuff set up for the State Rally this weekend, an' lemme tell ya - felt weird seein' the bike on the lift with someone other'n me takin' care of it! But it's cool - ah know all the techs, an' they came out ta talk w/me an' make sure of the stuff ah wanted done - good crew.
Anyway, the guy workin' on it asked me "hey - you must have 50' of after-market wirin' under that saddle!!" I told him "No - it's actually closer ta 250'!"
Deutsch University - When yer brought up 'round a Grandfather that built his own home(s), planers, band saws, etc. - an' a father that had ya tearin' down engines at the age of 12, ya larn how thangs are put together! Dad always told me that if ah would larn how ta do it mahself, then ah'd better know what others had ta do, an' iffen they wuz chargin' me a fair price.
Next time around, yeah - ah'll more'n likely do it mahself. At this point, though, with the rally runnin' me ragged, an' a ton of stuff ta git outta the way at work, ah opted ta pay 'em ta do the job and review the stuff ah've done so far on mah own. Spoke w/the tech today - he told me that everything he's seen has been fine, so that reassures me that ah'm doin' thangs the right way - which is what ah wanted to be sure of. Savin' money ain't worth it if ah'm screwin' stuff up, y'know? This is the first v-twin ah've messed with since the 70's, so ah wuz WAY outta practice.
