Default Installing Premium Tour Pack Rack

I am installing the premium tour pack luggage rack. I was looking for suggestion on where to place it, how far back from the passenger back rest. In the picture in the catalog it looks like the back legs align with the center line of the emblem on the tour pack lid but the instructions seem to put it farther forward. I was wondering how much further forward it should go it any?

Larry...

You need toconsider whether or not you're going to add the Tour Pak Spoiler...which using the template sent with the luggage rack...will show where the spoiler will mount. I just added my rack this past weekend...cant wait to get the spoiler.

To my knowledge, that would be the only thing to affect placement.

I always mount mine just a little bit back from the passenger backrest so if you need to attach or bungee anything down you aren't poking into the back of the passenger backrest.

Mine sits about 1/2 inchaway from the backrest.

Agree on the set-back - 3/8" to 1/2" and you'll be fine if you add the spoiler later. Any further back, an' yer likely ta have a problem mountin' a spoiler in the future. Also, check eBay or elsewhar an' find a product called a "Star Washer" - it's essentially a decorative fender washer - that'll spread the load further over the TP cover and lessen the chance of crackin' it from the load. Not such a big deal when the TP's were fiberglass, the new plastic ones WILL crack eventually - ask Goldwing owners.

Using washers might be a good idea but the star washers GW riders use look like they are no different functionally than a normal washer. They appear to just bedecorative from this link. http://www.wingstuff.com/pgroup_deta...ounts%2Fdes%2F

Not to be confused with the lock washer type star washer which would do nothing to protect the TP.

They ain't - they're simply chromed and more decorative, which is what ah indicated in mah post....they are larger in size than a standard washer - more the size of a fender washer - which ah ALSO indicated in mah post.

They also come with an oversized rubber washer ta help seal the unit against leakage....
