I think this subject has been asked before but my search draws a blank.
What was the best year for the Road King?
I know of course it’s the year you own. But which one had more bang for the buck and not too many bugs to work out?

My 98has fleas....
If you've got Fleas, just "Clean-them-out"
Nothin like a New S&S 124", Baker 6-Speed, Rinehart True Duals& a Barnett Clutch can't fix! [8D]
To be honest, I don't know if that question can be answered definitively. However, when I did a search on Service Bulletins and factory recalls, the only thing I found on the '04 FLHRCI is a rear light fixture required replacing. I also believe the '04 TC88 engine benefitted from the trials and tribulations of theprevious years. Certainly it's not perfect, but what Harley is? With that said, the new bikes, '07s ('06?) and later seem to have fixed the Cam tensionerproblem. I changed to S&S geared cams rightfrom the start as preventative maintenance. The new models seem to have issues my '04 doesn't have, e.g., noisey trani, overheating problems (pipes, PC III, A/C, dyno-tune helped a bunch), things like that. So,my very subjective opinion isthe '04 FLHRCI is the best year (onlybecause it's mine).
Maybe I just haven't read the right things, but I haven't heard of any problems with the '08's. The biggest issue I hear about is the heat, which is fixed with exhaust, air cleaner, and fuel management system.
what kind of fleas have you got?
98 era common issues or something different?
most common ones i have read for the FI bike are cam/crank position sensor ..will cause the engine light to go on and off until replaced, engine temp. sensor and the LCD leak in the odometer window...other than that most reports are from those that have done engine work or cam shaft changes..
