it is worth the 20-40/ yr. but ask the dealer to pay the first year. mine did, i doubt it cost him anything. i also get discounts from variuos dealers.
That sounds grand, but it's not reality. HOG Chapters are no different than other kinds of "interest groups". They take on a life of their own. They don't change their character with each new member.....they are what they are, and new members can take it or leave it. Simple as that.
To intimate that a HOG group will conform to whatever each new member "puts into it" is goofy. Life's just not that way, and neither are HOG groups (or any other kind of "group").
Was at the dealer last summer when they happen to have a HOG chapter meet there. When I saw the number of leather vests covered with so many pins and patches I quickly realized that this was not quite my demographic. I just couldn't fathom the comraderie taking place. Perhaps another place and time it would work for me - but that event alone discouraged me from renewing once my freebie runs out.

Up here in the Big City we live pretty close to one another, But I can throw a stick in the air and hit a taxi or an ambulance when I'm at work. when I get home from work just 13 miles away I look to head out with some neighbors& friends. some are Seasoned and some are just young. some need help with there riding ability and some are just like you. Some day I'm going to check out the big flat state down south and see what it's like to ride & not see anybody for a while. I may be a big change for me & I might like it, but for now I like a crowd around me. If you ever come up to NYC give me a shout, maybe we can have a beer and shoot the breeze together....

Hey Chrizzby. Nearest chapter to me is 50 miles away and since I'm really not a social animal by nature anyway, it's just not worth the hassle. I have one (well, maybe more than one) fault, I don't get into something unless I plan on giving it 100%. I couldn't do that with my time constraints so I'll just stay back in my little patch of heaven, 1/2 a mile from my nearest neighbor (and he's my brother and knows not to bother me) and enjoy the solitude.
Appreciate the input though.
Good buddy of mine once told me, if you join a club, group, organization, whatever, they are going to want you to come to meetings, help them plan events and do other organizational chores. He never joined anything. Now, I've belonged to HOG in the past and another motorcycle "organization" that required a special patch to be worn, thing is, when I was members and participating with these organizations, those were the summers of fewest miles. Now I spend my time loggin' miles, not standin' in a parkin' lot talking about it. Of course, that's my take, if you are looking for comraderie, making new friends and the like, this might be for you.
