Default How do you take off........

The pinthat ties the brake pedal into the shaft on the brake cylinder? I want to take the pedal in for powder coating but need to get it off first!

Do I really have to take the brake cylinder off? I've tried prying the pin out, but it doesn't want to budge. The FSM says to take the whole thing off and use a drift to get the pin out. Gotta be an easier way.

See the pic for the pin I'm talking about.

I've taken mine off several times. It's pressed in place on it's shoulder. I have used a flat bladed screw driver to get it to come out of the hole. Take out the cotter pin first along with the washer on the same side as the cotter pin. Tap the thin screw driver blade at the shoulder. Eventually it will come out enough so you can twist the blade and get it to come out. Getting it back in is another story. I was never able to get to press it back in. It didn't seem to make a difference. I put it in far enough to accommodate the cotter pin and washer and let it be. I never had a problem. Good luck

I just replaced my brake pedal and had no problem getting the pin out. I have seen some threads that said they used a small C clamp to press the pin ouit.

I had mine out the other day to replace the stock lever with an extended one. After removing the cotter pin and washer, I just pushed the pin out. Yours must be rusted in. I would oil it well with WD40 and then grab the end with some pliers and twist it until it is loose. I removed my floorboard to get easier access.

That's all it should be. +1 on the floorboard. From the looks of that pin I don't think it has seen any maintainence.

Thanks for the replies. I pried on it a little with a screwdriver and pulled on it with a pair of pliers and it popped out. I already got the pedal powder coated and back on the bike.

Thanks guys.

That little bugger of a pin was probably the closest I have ever come to chucking a wrench through my garage wall. Mine did NOT want to come out. Don't even ask about the cotter pin.

Best part was putting the Kury "extended" brake pedal on, and finding it to be "extended" by about 1/4" at best. $90 bucks and 4 hours of aggravation for THIS???!!!
