I'm a born again rider and am a proud owner of an 2008 Ultra Classic for a month now. I've never used the communications before and am looking for helmet recommendations, 3/4 and full. I do wear glasses. My current helmet is a shorty.
I personally use the Nolan N-102 with J&M headset and mike. It's a flip-up helmet which makes it easier to put on and take off. The built-in sun visor is a plus. I deal with the The helmet Shop in Daytona as they seem to have the best selection and prices. You may also want to check out the HJC Symax - it also has a retractable sun shield.
Both my brother and I have the Arai SZ/c 3/4 helmet with the flip-up face shield with the integrated J & M Headset.
The helmet is made to integrate with the headset.
The quality of the music thru my headset is so much better when riding compared to the bike speakers--that's all I use now.
You can go thru J & M but I purchased mine through a local BMW dealership that carries the J & M headsets and got a better price on the whole package.
don't do it you need a little piece and quite from the misses every now and then lol. if my wife needs to tell me something she wispers in my ear. seriously we just communicate pretty normaly. i wear a half helmet she wears a full but we can always hear each other ride it hard and put it away wet!
I have had a ton of helmets, Nolans, HJC Etc.....but I really like the new Fulmer Helmets for speaker placement. They have lots of room inside......may not be as full featured as the "high priced" ones, but I like them just the same......have both the flip and 3/4 with face shield.....works for me.
a good headset is a MUST.... J&M has headsets you can install in your own helmet at reasonable prices....
Before you buy ANY helmet online, try to find one in a shop near you, and try it on.... different helmet brands will fit YOUR head differently... it will make a difference
The only other thing to be concerned about is getting the right P-cord.... tell the seller what year/model you have to make sure you get the right cord
http://www.jmcorp.com/ be sure to check out the "last year's color helmets" as they can save you some money
You should also look at the KBC Tourcom helmets. Both the full and 3/4 have J&M headsets built-in and very comfortable. I've had the 3/4 for four years and the vents really work and I can wear it all day without bothering me. The only draw back is the headset speakers, J&M does not put their best audio quality speakers in this helmet, you have the buy the Arai helmets with integrated headsets for the best audio sound.
Check out Sierra Electronics for better prices than buying from J&M direct: http://www.sierra-mc.com/
I'd say check out the Nolan's. Great fit and all the options you might need.
Comes with the highest recommendations from somebody who has worn out many of them!
