HMMMMMMM
I guess I'll switch back to 91 oct for a while and track the difference. It's not that big a deal on 5-6 gallon fillups, I just always felt why spend the extra if it's not needed. The pinging I notice occasionally only happens when I've been on the road for a few hundred miles and in the heat. I attributed it to thin oil not fuel but who knows, I am not a mechanic, chemist or race expert. Just a fan and enthuisast. I'll report back on the numbers and any noticable performance changes in a couple weeks.
thanks

I've used Sea Foam for many years and I believe that it works very well. I put it in the gas at a concentration of about 1 oz/gal about every 3rd or 4th tank in my '82 FXE. When I got the bike, it had 16,000 miles & the top of the pistons were coated with thick oily gunk and it used about 1 qt of oil/1000 mi. I've put 6000 miles on it and now the top of the pistonsare essentially dry, bare metal and it uses no oil between 3000 mile changes, other than a couple of ounces thru the chain oiler. I use it in the oil in my car about every other change, in the gas about every 10th tank.
Right on Brother.
If in a few weeks i figure out how to attach a pdf, i'll upload my excel mileage chart with the results. BUT not sure i'll roll off the throttle so I don't know if it will show better mpg or just a bigger smile on my face.....while riding.
Appreciate the comback.

I run a bottle of Techron Fuel System Cleaner through my vehicles once a year. Noticable change in the idle and throttle response after use. Most vehicle manufacturers recommend Techron in name. In bikes I split the 12 ounce bottle over 2 or 3 tankfills
Last week I was talking to a newly gradated HD mechanic. I complained that my 07 ultra pinged depending on what brand 91 octane fuel I used. He recommend two Tier 1 stations and added, to never add any fuel additives, that some contain chemicals that "melt" the tank liner HD sprays in the tanks. Don't know if it's fact, but thought I'd pass it on.
BTW, because there is less kcal energy contained in 87 octane gasoline rather than 91 or 92 or 93 octane gasoline, it defies science and allthe laws of thermodynamics to suggest that you can get better mileage from 87 octane fuel than 91 octane fuel. It's quite impossible and silly.
Firetender,
Can you show, for my benefit and that of others on this site, if in fact High-Octane gas does have higher a energy index/potential (kcal = kinetic or caloric?) than low-octane? Isn't the difference merely in that high-grade has more anti-detonation (and higher detergent) additives, therefore can tolerate a more advance ignition timing? I am not a proponent of using 87 octane in Harleys, but merely want to get the record straight.
