My 5 gallon tank will hold 3.2 gallons when I fill up with the fuel gauge on empty, so I assume my reserve is a 1.7ish capacity. Figuring the mileage based on going 125 miles on a tank, but only putting 3.2 back in I get 39 mpg on average.

Mines a1996 Rk and filled her up yesterday, put in 3.2 gallons, about $11.50 and had ridden 165. miles on trip meter. Couldn't be happier. New DFO by RevTech.

sounds like the same guy who did know that re-setting the trip meter does not re-set the total miles. LMAO

Road Head,
Your reserve (if it's anything like my carbed '02 FLHT) is more than likely less that 1.7 gals. Just because your fuel gauge reaches 'E' does not mean you're on reserve (I would think you would know this, but I don't know for sure- perhaps your bike has EFI). I myself have runanother 20 miles with my analogfuel gauge on 'E'.
Your actual reserve capacitycan only be measured once your main fuel supply has run out (again, not applicable on EFI bikes). On my bike, after switching to reserve, then immediately filling up at the next available station (next exit within a couple of miles), I was able to put in 4.4 gallons (on a 5-gal. tank). This tells me, at least on my bike, that my reserve capacity is about .6 gallons. Assuming an ave. fuel mileage of 35 mpg, this means that my reserve range is around 20 miles.

I've only had the bagger a couple weeks. If it hits E on the gauge I fill up before hitting reserve which has been 3.2 gallons each time. I thought 1.7 was sort of large for reserve. Typically my mileage is at 125-130.

I have rode to 200 miles several times and it only held 4.5-4.7 gallons.
My mpg is at least 42-45. I do not live close to a big city. The only time iI go through a city is on a trip and that doesn't count.
