On a trip up to Orlando last weekend, I did 184 miles and the last 30 miles the fuel light was on. When we finally stopped, I refilled with 5.084 gallons and thought I was lucky. We were crusin 80-85 all afternoon, so I got roughly 36 mpg with my Ultra.
Avmech97 says he put 5.6 in his RG... wonder if my tank holds the same as his or was I lucky not to run out?
I have 96 XL1200 Custom with drag pipes and a Stage 1 carb kit. I recently took a trip to Richmond, VA which is 150 miles from where I live (according to Google). I was curious as to what kind of mileage I was geting so I filled up the gas tank (3.2 gal) zeroed the trip odometer and headed out stopping every 50 miles (+ or - 1 mile) and filled up each time, I only put in one gallon to fill up the tank (to the top). So I summize on the highway at 65mph average I'm getting close to 50 mpg. If any of you fine people can tell me if I have errored in my calculation I am happy to hear your opinion.
The most I was ever able to put into my 07 five gallon tank was 4.8 gallons after 212
miles. I was sweating it out in Oregon on the way to Creater Lake.
