I know that the Stage I made me run richer to keep the heat down, but the guy from T-max said that the Stock A/F ratio was actually bad for the engines. Even stock they ran too lean. I find that hard to believe, but wanted another opinion.
HD designed the twin cam 96" to run lean and hot in order to limit and burn off emissions to pass EPA. Like Donny Peterson said in an email to me on the subject . . . "heat will be the downfall of the twin cam."

We've all heard about the glowing head pipes on stock engines. That's how hot a stock engine can run.

For me, I did the stage 1 for three reasons. One is engine life, two is rider comfort, and three is performance.

BTW, I'm getting around 38 MPG with my set up which is a SERT & dyno tune. AFR is set rich at around 13:1. I like to keep the RPMs up over 2500.
