I picked up a wrecked 05 Glide it has a Backer 6-speed conversion in it. Finally got it all painted and back together. Everything runs and rides great. I do have a concern with the baker 6-speed. It doesn’t shift as smooth as my previous bikes (97 King, 01 RG, 03 RG). It goes in through the gears fine but I have push a little harder then I did with my other bikes. Also it’s impossible to get it into neutral with the motor running. With the engine off it’s no problem getting neutral. When in first gear the lever travels further after the gear has engaged. These all may be "normal" characteristics but I've never ridden this kind of a set up before.
So if anyone has any input I would appreciate your comments.
Gunnert is correct. I would vote for #1 as well..Dont too many baker installs now and i buy 2 top cover gakets now...haha..Once you get it right though, leave it and it will be like shifting butter.
I hope its not the clutch. It has about 10k on a High performance Kevlar set up. I will check the adjustments. Ive never done it before but I am mechanicaly inclined and I do have the repair manual. lol. Wish me luck. Off to the garage I go.
