You do not need to do anything to it it will run just fine.
Now if you want to change just the pipes to make it loader you do not have to do anything.
If you do a stage 1 and change pipes and AC you will need to
1. do a download this will make the bike run with the changes but will not change fuel mix
Bike will pickup some HP
2. do the downlaod and add a race tuner this will make it run and change fuel mix to make it run a bit cooler and add more HP
3.Use the TFI tuner you will not need to any download no dyno time you will change fuel mix and pick up HP. Only down side to the TFI is it is not as flexable as some of the othetr race tuners. Upside it has less problems and easy to use. Tfi can be removed quickly if bike needs to go in for warranty work
4. any heat issues are mostly related to idle while nothing to worry about you can add a simple N02 IED for about 80 dollars it goes between o2 sesnor and fools the o2 sensor at idle and chnage fuel mix to enrich it there by cooling the bike. It has NO effect at any other time on the bike.
easy to install and no danger of damaging 02 sensor as you do not have to remove the senor to install
IF YOU DO A STAGE 1 you will need to at least do a download other wise the bike may run too lean.
Do not buy a fuel manage aka race tuner off ebay then blame HD because you bike runs like crap.

I will repeat you do not have to do any of this to make your run or to save your bike. It will run just fine stock
good luck enjoy your bike filetr out the BS from fact and make sure bubba the back yard hd expert keeps his hand off your bike the cause of 98% of all HD problems

I would like to start with a stage I kit and pipes (reinhart TD's), and eventually add maybe a stage II kit. This is about as far as I would like to go... I was just interested in what you all thought on what to add. I would have all of this work done at the HD shop and would not attempt to do it myself. thanks again for all of your help... I would still like to know if anyone has had luck getting the racetuner for the 08's I have been told that HD has changed the design on it, and it is currently either slow to get or unavailable... thanks again!

Get a TMAX. You won't regret it.

No problem. I see you got some polite replies. All good info; you ses that have multiple choices you can make. I had PCIII on the '05 with problems. Removed and installed Thundermax ECM and had it dyno tuned. Happy so far. It is also the only one in the industry with a 3 year warranty I believe. Check out the Zippers or Thundermax web sites. There are times I wish I left my bikes stock - nothing srong with that option either. Good luck.
