I switched to a gear drive system 4000 miles ago. Unfortunetly while installing the new cams, I found the rear tensioner on the chain systemhad failed completely (left tensioner in picture), and had damaged the oil pump, so I had to replace that in the process. I teamed up the S&S Gear Drive withAndrew's 26g cams, Samson fishtail exhaust, and SE Hi Flow air filter on my 88", and ampushing 77 hp. I have beenmore than happy with gear drive, and plan on doing a similar set up on my next bike.
Thats why I'm getting rid of them in my bike. I have a new oil pump, camplate, lifters and pushrods ready to go. I guess for now I will just go with the 26G cam's, If I don't like them I'll change them out again.
I'm running the 26G in my 02 RKC with gear drive, no head work, SERT tuning (Though it ran fine with the Stage 1 download). Weisco pistons at 95 inches, .030 head gasket for slight bump in compression, stock push-rods and V&H headers with SE slip on mufflers. I have 27,000 trouble free miles on this combo and it sounds great, has great power 84 HP 103 TQ. It has pulled me and the wife up many a mountain pass (Me 235. She 145) loaded to the hilt and in 5th gear. Not looking for high end power this cam is all I ever wanted along with the mods already mentioned. Lastly, it gets 43/48 mpg regularly (I do ride conservatively) and as far as running out of breath past 4500 RPMS, it doesn't. Maybe on the spec sheet and the dyno but not were I live in the real world. My 08 SG with Stage 1 and Bubs7 true duals has nothing left to give after 70/75 mph while the 02 still has a kick at this speed

Neckball, I think the only other thing I would consider doing to this motor is some head work. I liked the 203's in my bike but not the damn chain tensioner's. so I'm going gear drive.HQclaimstheirsto be a good cam formotors with and with outheadwork. Most of my riding is in the mid range putting down the freeway at three grand.
Thane,
That's not claim... It's fact.
I have installed several sets and never had anyone disapointed.
As far as the earlier comment that the "HQ cam is a tweener, like a 203".... that's the first I've ever heard that one & it's certainly anything but what my personal experience has been.
If you like the 3k RPM range, you'll love the 0034 cams. They are very similar to the Andrews 26 on the bottom, but keep making power further up the RPM range. By comparison, the 203 is basically like a stock cam (in some cases worse) below 3k and then it comes on pretty good... not as good as the 0034 though.
Everyone's got opinions, & that's just mine. Hope it helps....
I almost wish you would have said any of that PhilM. I feel a but kicking coming form the wife and my bank account going down some more. I would of got the HQ's in the first place but the Andrews 203's came in the kit I picked up with all of the other parts I wanted.

Would NOT use the 26G's with any head work - taken from experience. I'm in the process of going to either the TW-6G or the 0034. Have heard a couple complaints about the HQ-0034's being noisy whereas the 6G is less noisy. But, would guess anything can be noisy if not adjusted perfectly.
