Why does my gas mileage suck A**? I have a 103", it has about 500 miles on it... I am only getting about 170-180 miles to a 6 gallon tank? WTF can I do to improve it?
I have the same build you do with a custom dyno. I get 34-38, with an average of 37 probably. I run it fairly hard. If you're saying you are getting 30mpg I assume you're saying your tank is bone dry when you fill up at 180 miles, which obviously isn't the case. When you fill up at 180 miles, not that it's real realible, but how many miles does your miles to empy guage read and how many actual gallons can you squeeze in the tank? My light comes on around 175-180 and if I fill up then I usually put 5.0 in. At 5.0 gallons and 180 miles that's 36 mpg. I've pushed it before though just to see what I actually had in it, since early on when I filled up, I had over a gallon of gas left. When I did I got 200 miles to a tank and put 5.3 gallons in. Unless you're really ******* the bike, I don't see getting much better than high thirties, or low forties. I know I use more fuel than I did with any of my 95"er's as to be expected.

The DTT TDFI II or III will work on smaller builds and milder cams but it is really made for more aggressive builds and larger inch engines. A good person tuning the bike can make a PCIII or for that fact, most any of the other fuel management systems work reasonably well and give you mileage at least in the high 30s if not well into the forties. The key is getting the AFR right, then putting the timing to a point that performance is good and there is no pinging. As stated before, sometimes tuners will chase pure performance and in doing so, leave the timing too steep and to compensate, they throw more fuel at the engine. You can get both decent performance and decent economy, but it takes some time to get both.

The DTT gives you many more parameters to tune, - timing and AFR at every 500 rpm, and different throttle positions. SERT has even more parameters and is the ultimate tool in the hands of a really knowleagable person with a dyno. I use the DTT cause I can get it to probably 95% or better of optimum tune with out a dyno, and there just is no-one close here that I trust with the SERT.

I have a stock 08 Ultra with a Lehman Trike Kit and am getting 31 to 39 as I break it in. 39 is driving under 70 mph. 31 is running 75 to 80 mph. The trike is just starting to loosen up at 700 miles.

I may just have to put up with the heat, etc, as my stock '08 EG got 44 mpg in mixed riding today.
