I just soak a cloth in water and lay it on the surface for a few minutes. Bug splat comes right off. But if something more complex works for you, go for it! Personally, I have enough other things to think about...

Yeah - been usin' peroxide fer years with NO issues. Have several buddies w/body shops that have said it's no problem - actually learned about it from a feller what has show cars, he uses it without reservation.

The best thing I have found for bugs and all general cleaning is Auto Windex. It contains no ammonia and works like a charm....

I never clean the bugs off of my bike until I'm ready to sell it. I find the layer of guts helps protect the paint from other hazards such as acid rain, rock chips, etc.

Here in Florida the "Love Bugs" swarm twice a year. They splatter all over everything and dry like concrete. If you don't get them off ASAP the little B*st*rd's acid in their despicable little worthless bodies will quickly etch your clear coat or paint. A buddy of mine at a Toyota dealership in the area told me to wet a dryer sheet that you throw in there to kill static and make your clothes fresher, and use it to remove the little suckers. I've used it now for a few years and its worked fine with no harmful affects.

sorry 2003 if that seems too complex for you. The guy asked a question and thats how people get information. I think these forums are great if people take the info and then try to use that information. I had a friend tell me that peroxide worked and I gave it a try, now all my riding friends use it as well. I sure am glad it works for me, cuz I kill alot of bugs.

50/50 peroxide and water has worked great for me. No harm whatever. Just don't get it in your hair!

I read this thread last night and I had never heard of the 50-50 peroxide and water trick so I mixed myself up a batch and holy **** this concoction is the cats a$$ ,I had a good layer of bugs on the front of my roadie from a weekend of riding, sprayed it on and immediately the bugs started to turn white and fester up just like when you put peroxide on a cut or wound to clean it and then in a couple of minutes they wipe right off ,FANTASTIC,can't believe I struggled with a can of bon-ami for so many years ,this is to easy ,thanks for the tip.

Add another vote for warm water and a soft towel. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and they wipe right off. And I ride in GA, where the bugs are so thick at times after dark that it feels like you are riding through the rain.

Now for a scientific explanation. Hydrogen Peroxide is H2O2. If you leave it in a clear container it will turn in to water or H2O. It is safe to use on everything that you would use water on. If you are still concerned just go to your local high school and ask the science teachers. Heck you can even drink the stuff, just dont smoke while you drink it because when you start to burp it will be pure oxygen.
