2008 ALternator problem
Left the house and went about a mile when the radio quit playing and the volt meter dropped to zero. Bike kept running and I stopped at a wide spot to see what was up. As soon as I stoped the radio started playing again and the volt meter started showing a charge. Went another mile and stopped for gas. When I started the motor the check engine light came on for 8 or 10 seconds and then went out. Drove to the dealer for them to check it out and they put it on the analyzer and it showed a code for overcharging (the volt meter had read 15 since it was new). After checking the wiring and who knows what else the tech said he was going to pull the primary cover. After pulling the cover, the drive chain, and everything else in there he pulled the stator and found that it had a chunk out of it about the size of a 50 cent piece (looked like someone hit it with a large hammer). No idea how it happened - no metal chunks or anything in the oil when he drained it. No one could figure out how it happened other than it was like that when it left the factory (2008 Electra Glide Classic with 942 miles on it). No noise when it happened like you would expect when something hits metal. Anyway, its waiting for parts - who knows how long as it has been a week already.
Anyone had a similiar problem or any idea how it happened?
