It is definetly all about the right map and letting it learn. I have the TMax, and the initial map that the dealer installed ran like crap, tons of ping and bad gas mileage. My bike was the first and only TMax install at my particular dealer. I talked with the operations manager at the dealer, great guy, about the issues I was having and he called Zippers. They sent someone to help train the service techs, and re-tuned my bike. The guyZippers sent was the President of the company, Dan, and he did a bang up job.The dealer hadloaded the wrong map for my set up, and didn't have the experience to get it running correctly to begin with. The mapped fuel numbers were good, but the timing for my high compression setup was all wrong, hence the pinging. He spent some time tweaking my tune and now my bike runs great, lots of pull and getting around 38pmg (and getting better everyday). The TMax is a very high tech tuner, with tons of options. He walked me thru the process, half of which went over my head but did give me a few tricks for future issues. The one thingDan reminded me of, the bike can only learn in the thottle positions you ride in. If you get on it for the first time, it won't be optimal power, yet. So I guess, get on it a lot more often. I guess I have rambled to stress...let it learn and make sure the map is right for your bike.

My 2 cents...love the TMax over my old SERT

I did ask Zippers what map I should start with, and after a few days they said I should use map 393. The bike runs great, just noticed a little decrease in my MPG is all. I'll give it some more time and miles to learn, and keep track of it all.

I have about 900 miles on mine, on an 07 Road Glide, and I'm getting a consistent 38. I was originally getting some decel popping, even with the Decel Fuel Cut turned on, but it gets less and less the more miles I put on it. I figure if I tweak the fuel maps a bit I should be able to get it up to around 42 or so with no problem, just lots more miles. The key is definitely giving it time to learn.

They work great on stage 1 or 2 motors but need some time to dial in from the base maps.

400 miles is not far enough to tune the bike. You need to vary yer riding style for the TM to learn also. If you only ride one way it will only tune at that way.
I was gittin better fuel milage with a 103 than a 96cu.
The kind of pipes you have will also effect how fast yer bike leanrs.
CAll TM and talk with them.
Ask Tm if they have a advanced TM person in yer area. They will have the advanced program to run on yer bike and can tune it faster than riding it. I have a buddy that is a TM advanced tuner back home in South AlaBama that explained some of this to me.

chicago spike,

randy over at zippers helped me deal with my mpg, after a "lower end" rebuild caused mpg to go to crap. shoot me an email at: sheldon.grooms@amd.com and I'll email you the procedure, i went from 25 to 35 in a single map set edit and that was running two-up. I expect the Tmax to make it better over time.

Sheldon,

Not be a whiner, but why not post this info so we can all learn? I'd like the know the procedure, and there are probably others too.

Thanks

If the engine is getting too much fuel, it isn't running right. It performs poorly and maintenance issues can arise. It's not so much as worrying about fuel mileage, as it is that I KNEW what the MPG was BEFORE adding this unit. AFTER, there was a noticable drop in MPG and that is the reason for the question.
