If you guys are riding "reasonably", you should easily be getting 40 or better MPG.
If you aren't riding the crap out of it and are still getting that poor mileage, you really need to get them tuned better. Running that rich washes the oil from the cylinder walls... oil that lubes you motor while you ride. In addition to that, the fuel will contaminate your oil.
Ever notice the smell of gas when you check or change your oil?
This is what I was saying. Thanks Phil ! I don't smell gas and the mileage does seem to be improving. I'll give it a few more tankfulls and see what happens. I don't ride the crap out of it, just having fun. So, I know it can be better.
I have worked with a few guys with their PCIIIs and a few other systems, along with tuning mine with the DTT. What I have seen, almost universally is that the fuel is set way too rich using base maps from FuelMoto and what dealers are installing.
I am by no means a PCIII expert, but if you dont want to go to the effort of hooking a laptop and really tweaking the maps the way they should be, you do have three buttons on the box and can try leaning out the fuel by one bar at a time. Lean it, then ride it for a while, if no pinging or running issues, then take it another notch until you get issues, then back up one. You should be able to do this easily in the midrange but not as easily at the top or low range. I know wveryone wants performance, but going too rich really doesn help, maximum hp is made at the balance of the leanest setting you can have without detonation. Running a bit fat does help tq, but not fat enough that you are losing substantial mpgs.
You really should hook up your laptop and take a look at what you got. "iclick" here on the forum seems to be a pretty knowledgable guy when it comes to PCIIIs. PhilM, John (SpikeCT), myself can help with DTTs but the T-maxs are a whole nother animal.
I now have over 700 miles on it and I am back up to 40mpg and still going up. Went 160 miles and took 3.90 gallons in. So I am back on the "Pleased" side of the TMax units
