Default Thundermax

I want to ask some of you about this tuner. I paid $900 for this thing and i am wondering if someone can tell mewhat the hell this thing is suppose to do in the performance of my bike.

When i start my bike it seems the idling of the bike doesn't remain consistant at one level,it seems to to go up then down some in sound. My mechanic saids"that my bike with the thundermax doesn't level out until it hits 200 degrees".

While doing city riding in town i will get about 110 miles on 4 gallons gas,i thought the thundermax was suppose to get me better milaege,my mechanic saids that is about right considering if you use the reserve you will be around 140 miles so that is about right,is this true with this thundermax on?

i have a '04 road king which when stocked 88ci when asked at the HD dealer is around 55-60 HP/78lbs Torq, well with the thundermax and my 95 bore kit[cams] dyno is 86HP/95LBS torq is this consistant or was this thundermax in each one of these things i spelled out overated and a waste of money?

Way too much money for a little boost in performance. slipons, ac, and PC would still be cheaper. All I've done is slipons and I got the sound and a little more hp, all I wanted. Sell it on Ebay.

The Thundermax target Air/Fuel ratios (AFR) are set at a performance setting, particularily at higher throttle positions (60-100%). In town riding spends more time in those throttle positions, and therefore will cut your fuel economy down in leiu of performance. The AFR targets in the cruising range (20-40% TP and 2500-3200 rpm) are leaner, therefore giving better mileage when touring. Your technician has the ability to adjust the AFR targets the Thundermax will hit if you want to increase your mileage, and effectively "leaning" the air/fuel ratio. If your mechanic contacts Zippers, they will allow him to unlock advanced tuning options not available to the general public. Have faith, it works excellent, and I currently get 45 mph cruising at 75-85 mph consistently on my SG.

Mark,
I am looking at the ThunderMAX with Autotune for my 07 Roadking - $900 should have included the autotune module. Theoritically, your performance should be getting better every time you run your bike. I would call Zippers for support on your problem. I actually left a message at the website for more info but haven't received anything so far. I'll be keeping an eye on the outcome of this topic!

Hey guys thanks for the replies i really appreciate it.I should also tell you that i am one of those guys that ride for about 2 hours on sundays and that is it. I bougth my RK in '04 and only has 2700 miles on it.I do have the auto tune thundermax and i was told that this thing is suppose to tune itself to my style of riding but i ride mostly in town maybe once or twice a week and for maybe about 50 miles,so will this cause the effect that i am having on my bike?

gunner11,Let me ask you this question and that is your 08 and my 04 is their a difference in the stock motors?

If you don't mind me asking with your changes what was your dyno readings before and after?

It really shouldn't make too much of a difference which size engine it is, as your Thundermax is using the air/fuel ratio coming out your exhaust to make the necessary adjustments to hit the AFR targets. It sounds like I do more long distance commuting, so one would expect that I would get better mileage. I have experienced lower fuel mileage when just running around town, doing a lot more accelerating from light to light and what-not. Also, idling will obviously take away from mileage, particularily when the system is adding additional fuel to keep the motor running cooler. Have you noticed that the engine temperature has dropped as well?

Corey,
I really don't know because i have no temperature gauge on the bike.I had the bike since '04 but i don't know alot about harley's per say. All these things i did to the bike started in april. I think te furthest i have rode oneway was about 40 miles before the changes and after.I love my bike and when i do ride on sunday morning or afternoon it feels great but yes i do alot of stopping from light to light in my town before i might make i on a stretch of highway that might last 30 miles before i reach my destination, which is going to a nice sea food restaurant or something with some friends.

I just want to make sure in asking more experience riders who have road kings that what i did and what i have is consistant with the way i ride my bike?

When i went to the Hot rod shop for the changes what the guy told me was that my bike stock 88cu would have more HP/TORQ then a stock '09. I paid $1750.I checked with harley davidson on what was the specs for a stock 88 versus
a stock'09 and the difference i was told was [88CU]55HP/78TORQ versus ['09] 65HP/86Torq road kings. I got [86/90] HP and 95Torq.My RPM's are up to 5200 before it starts to drop off so like i said i was just wondering is this ok for what i got?

You need to get that bad boy out on the highway and run it at 75-85 for a while so the ECM can learn it. And then you need to go a few hundred miles just 'cause you can.

Otherwise you could have just put a set of 13.8 XiED's in there and saved yourself $800. The Tmax is really overkill for the kind of bike you have and the type of riding you do. Just in my humble opinion of course.

You know you are not the only one who has said that to me[laugh].Why i did i have no reason other then to say i was bored and wanted to have a pet project to do.Myself i am just not a long distance rider not even in the car even,i guess people that i may try to ride with they are in such a hurry to go fast and i am not with all of that even though it might not seem like it from the things i have done to my bike. I hope to one day find a group of riders that like to take it slow and go plces were their is some nice eating going on.[laughing]
