I have an 06 Ultra and i recently completed a day trip. On the trip i set the cruise control on the interstate. I noticed on the down hill that the speed dropped from what i had set and on uphills it accelerated more than 5 mph above the speed i set. today i called my dealer and inquired about this. I was told that that's how it's suppose to work; what the heck!!
Your speed will vary some, but that seems excessive. I doubt mine ever varies much more that a 3-4 mph swing. If I use the resume feature, it does take a little time to get back up to full speed, maybe 30 seconds or so.
It might be your 6th gear and the lack of power/torque. I've riden 50K on my 05 and it holds very close except when I encounter agrade greater than 6%. Even then it does a good job
I would suggest you check or have your tech check the throttle cable tensions and then reset the cruise control. They know how to do this. Both my 02 and my 07 are pretty close to right on.
