I didn't want to wait when getting a King Tourpak so I bought one off Ebay. My bike is Pearl Black and the oneI bought was Vivid Black. I saved over $110 off the retail price and did not pay tax. I also got it right away and did not have to wait like you do when ordering from the stealer.
Sorry for the lesson in life, but it's true.....I've seen a couple of the cheap o's and it's exactly what you paid for! The king tour pack costs, but you will be proud to have it and not ashamed..
A lesson to all!I got mine in about 3-4 weeks ( 20% off from Chicago Harley )....the luggage is so cool, and easy to use..
Sorry to hear of your bad experience. Dozens of HDF'ers (myself included)have purchased the Mutazu boxes without obvious damage such as you experienced, and with rare exception have been pleased with them.
As for the Mutazu's construction, it is comparable to the RK tour paks without the leather covering.
I have both the Mutazu and the HD King Tour Paks; until recently the Mutazu was mounted on a solo detachable rack and the HD on a two-up detachable rack. I decided to try the King on the solo rack since I rarely ride with a passenger and wanted to try the King on the solo rack. The Mutazu is much lighter in construction (welcomed when installing and removing), and holds about 85% as the King (the difference due mostly to the fore/aft difference in size; width-wise they are very close to the same.
As little as I use either tour pak, it is much easier for me to see the Mutazu sitting in the garage (with a total outlay of about 275 bucks, indluding the rack), than the King TP (with a total outlay of about 800 bucks) sitting there.
Again, sorry to hear of your damaged Mutazu; but seeing guys buy them for more than two years and notreading ofany quality issues with them as delivered leads me to believe you were unlucky--and didn't receive the customer service you should have.
I have never read anything like this here before either and that is why I made the purchase. But I was set back when the guy said that if he sent me another one it would probably look the same way as they are all sent to them with scratches and that they have to be buffed out. After closer examination of the trunk I can see that it had been buffed out by somebody that doesn't know how to buff. Anyway I have it mounted up and have decided to keep it. I almost ordered the king tourpak today from Chicago Harley but couldn't bring myself to spend that much right now. If it holds up I suspect I will habg on to it. T.
I had one of these cheap POS on my 05 RK, damn thing was about junk in a year, thats why when i bought my 08 SG i went a got the real deal from harley. I got the king pack from chicago HD and saved a bunch
Just went through virtually the same process, except....When I went to buy the cheap $110 tour pak, I said to myself, "you're going to regret it"...so I DIDN"T. Call Katie at HDofMC in Mason City Iowa. Tell her Craig from Montana told you to call, and tell her you want the same deal she gave me... 20% off a Chopped Tour Pak, but she'll do the same for a King. She's great, and you'll have a quality product that you won't regret. Best buy I could find. Regards, CCRyder
In fact, here's her toll free number 1 800 205 7082. Hope this helps.
