If for some reason, you are pulled over and the cop says... "Hey, those aren't stock pipes" and proceeds to write you a ticket, you can slip the stock muffs back on and probably get the ticket cleared.

If this was the case, I would be curious how any of the after-market manufacturers can sell any of them. If the pipes/mufflers were not intended for highway use (versus off-road/closed track) how do they sell them without a large sticker that states so?
V&H, Rinehart, etc would be out of business. They have to comply with regulations also (I think).
Oh it's too late. Now only did I dump them but I dumped them illegally. If you own a Convenientstore near me, you better not leave your dumpster unlocked and open. Why else is it called a connvenient store? I don't complain when I pay $7 for a 6 pack and
I think if the law changes, older bike will be grandfathered in.

I've never had stock pipes on any bike I've traded in. As a matter of fact, the '08 Softail Custom I traded in for my Road King has a Cobra 2-into-1 on it. It's still on the bike at the dealer. http://www.h-dog.com/invdetails.php?id=505
