I was home on R&R last week and had a chance to get the dealer's prospective on the 08 vs 09 question.
He mentioned that if he were in this position he'd op for the 09.
Igave this some thought and yesterday paid the balance due on the 08 and thenhad the paper workdrafted up for an 09. According to the new quote it seems the 09s are going to cost substantially more.About $1,000 over the 08. Mind you the rep did tell me to check back in July foran update on theprice.
Besides inflation does anyone have any idea why that might be?
Could it be they over priced me in antisipation of a substantially increase?
It has to do with the price of steel right now. I am in the metal business and steel prices have skyrocketed. Since January of this year, prices have increased by approximately 50% due to Chinese and European demand coupled with a weak U.S. dollar and surging energy costs. We are hearing that costs will continue to escalate into the fourth quarter of this year. Also, the market price of chrome, traded as acommodity, has taken off in the last couple of months. I'm sure HD has a contract with someone(used to be a company called Marmon-Keystone) for their frame tubing but even with a contract they have to have seen sustantial increases.
Demand for steel in this country is actually down so foreign exporting is driving the prices up right now and domestic supply is tightening due to the amount of metal leaving this country. Until demand in China and Europe falls, you will probably continue to see the cost of anything made with steel, stainless steel, aluminumor copper continue to rise.
I wouldn't count on the price of the 09's coming down. You may see them increase even more. Pay the grand and be glad that's all it is.
You can figure on a 3-5% increase. That's about what they go up every year. I don't think it will be a grand. Even with the cost of raw materials going up they can't justify going up that much.
