Seriously thinking of getting a GPS for an upcoming trip to the mountains. I know, Garmin Zumo. Honestly, for the amount of times I'd really use a GPS I cannot justify spending $600 give or take. I just don't take the kind of trips that would require it and locally within a hundred or so miles, I know where I'm going lol.
So what are my alternatives for something that is a good unit?
Best bet out there is the Garmin 60 CSx. Under $300 on the internet (Walmart.com). Best Buy price-matched for me and walked out the door with it. This replaced my Garmin 60CS which had no expandable memory and recently went in for service. Having a x-country trip coming up, I needed a replacement ASAP. Very happy with it.
The new Garmin 60 csx is killer. Waterproof, easy to route and controls are easy to work on the move. The only down side is you have to get micro sd card with City Navigator to use effectively. That or get large memory card and download North American Navigator program. You can get a mount that clamps right on your bars and the unit is great!!!! If you want pics PM me. P.S. I just covered 2,806 mile in 6 days and the unit was fantastic. I pre-programmed route so it was all set up before I left.
If you just want basic stuff for now.. streets, schools etc.. Look for a Garmin GPS V on ebay.. should be able to get one cheap.. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?...5&tab=gps5
You can download street level maps to it... and if you hike or walk trails.. it can be used as a handheld or put on a bicycle.. it's waterproof... and yes.. it will hold up on a motorcycle.. had one on my Sporty for yrs without a problem... may not be color.. but you can find out if you really want a more expensive one without putting out the bucks...
i'll 2nd REDNECKS suggestion on the Garmin street pilot 2610 factory 1 yr war, updated inards, and i paid $260 on E bay, sorry forget the vendor, been a few month, works like a charm. waterproof, easy to use with gloves, etc

If your looking for easy without wiring then go for a Garmin Quest with the $20 handle bar mount.Unit is made for motorcycles but comes with a car kit. You don't even have to wire anything since it comes with internal rechargable batterys. They claim a charge will hold for 20 hours but mine really holds for about 9 hours. Still plenty of time in the saddle to keep it on all the time.
