So you were in a single vehicle accident, the gate was the primary cause, you picked up the bike, and THEN LEFTthe scene of the accident? No call topolice for a police report or at least onsite security personnel? Now you going torely on a video that may or may not have been recorded, recorded over(depending on capacity of system),or erased for a claim. Good luck! An accident is an accident and should always be reported immediately to cover yourself. What would be a kick in the shorts is if they go to the gate and take pictures of the tiny "no motorcycle/bicycle" warning sticker and make you pay for the gate damages.
The reps from work have contacted me. There shoudl be no problem with me getting the $$$ to repair the damage. They are more concerned with my physical damage...ie. was I hurt. I was not...pride and ego maybe. The best i can gather at least 1000$ work of skint up chrome and the one fairing lower that needs repainting.
Don't you just love the website spam that comes up on this thread? Gate Control Systems!
Cracks me up some of the keyword spam that comes up on these pages....
This happens more than you might think. I work in maintenance at a big USPS plant that has these gates. I broke one off about 2 weeks ago. i ducked and it got caught on backrest. Didn't hurt anything, but several people got a good laugh? Then one of my coworkers cut off the broken end and put it back on. The one on main gate is getting short enough you can drive around it.
Gates are bad, but have you ever tried to ride over tire shredders. I hit a set of those at an angle while riding around a gate that wouldn't open because I was too light. Cars do fine, bikes...not so great. It didn't damage my tire, but sure felt like it did.
We have those gates that lead to the garage at the bank. Usually I don't use the garage (you need to be higher up the food chain to do so. ) But if I need to go in to work on the weekends ( IT - Not your normal 9 to 5 job. ) the only way to get into the building is by the elevator in the garage.
I often wonder if it is going to do to me exactly what it did to you.
I'm glad you didn't get hurt and are going to get some $$ out of it to repair your ride.
Criticism? Not really, more a statement of disbelief. There are many states that have laws that require you to report traffic accidents. A traffic accident doesnât have to involve two vehicles as some states define a traffic accident as unintentional damage or injury caused by the movement of a vehicle (not vehicles) or its load.
I used to investigate traffic accidents and you would be surprised at the number of people that donât know there are laws concerning this and leaving the scene of an accident. So I would be trying to investigate something that happened a day or two after the incident that may or may not have happened where and how the victim stated it did. JBHawley has a good case that could have easily been dismissed by the company if the video âdisappearedâ and there wasn'ta report to back up the story. Itâs a matter of protecting yourself.
