I knew this would happen sooner or later. Well, it did yesterday.
At my work we have to go thru a crossing arm to get into and out of the parking lot. Going in we have to swipe out ID badge and the arm raises. Going out there is a sensor in the pavement that lifts the arm when a vehicle gets to the gate and a senso on the arm that is supposed to keep the arm raised until the vehicle passed underneath.
Yesterday, the friggin' exit arm raised as it usually does then immediately closes, hitting me on top of my helmet. The arm then continues down and get hug up between me and my tour pak. I try to stop, balance, anything becaseu I know this is not going to be pretty. The arm catches on my rider backrest and pulls the bike over to the right even before i can get my feet on the ground. The arm finally breaks off as my bike hits the pavement. Well, luckliy there is no one behind me and i have timne to get off, pick the bike up, cuss the gate and thrown the damn broken gate arm into the weeds. Boy am I pissed.
I get home and inspect the damage. Scraped engine guard, floorboards, saddlebag guards (i expected this as these are the "catch" points of a slow speed fall). But I also have a sractch up hyway peg mount, and the fairing lower is scraped also. DAMN!!!!
I call back to work to tell them what happened. Of course, they are very sympathetic (sp). I will file a claim. If thay have any doubt...look at the parking lot camera video..i am sure that is a plesant sight for a couple minutes. UGGGGGH
I usually park in the visitor lot as there are no gates, but it was full yesterday. I will not begin parking on the sidewalk when the lot is full. Never again with the main lot and those damn gates.
I will keep you posted on the resluts of my claim.
I would put a claim in to the security, make them pay for the damage. they should make it friendly to any motor vehicle, including a motorcycle. See if they can make changes to the gates speed and sensitivity. See if they can make a MC spot in the guest parking lot ...
Get the video and post it. Or better yet send it to americas funniest videos. You could win 100,000.00 bucks and get to meet bob sagget. Sucks that it brought the bike down though, but the company should pay. C-mon nobody saw this happen? I guess a automatic arm smacking you in the head would divert your attention for a minute. Be careful Mad max was based on a weed eater that chases little kids around in the dark on elm st.
I know it sucks but the mental picture of that arm smacking you on the head is hilarious. I would never make fun of you because thensomething like that willhappen to me but if I had been there to see it, I would have had to laugh.
At least you didn't get hurt(except for the ego maybe) and the damage could have been worse.
I'll be watching youtube for the video.

I'd rather spoon my eye out than meet Bob Sagget. I guess the prize money would make it worth it, but not by much.
Damn, man. That sucks. I'd get an estimate and give it to security. See if they do anything about it first. If not, then file the claim. That's what I'd do anyway.
