Just about to hit the 1000 mile mark. Have an appointment next week for the tune up at the dealer. I would like to ride to work this weekend 140 miles round trip. How important is it to get the tune at the 1k mark or could I go over by a couple of hundred miles. Thanks John
As long as your money is green, it makes little or no difference if you are over the 1000 miles

Enjoy the ride, you'll be fine. I went over a little bit, the dealer never said a word.

There is no 1000 mile tune up ? went over myself on the new one had a ride to make.
relax enjoy your bike and don't get rapped around all the BS and details it is a well make bike that will not die if you miss a service by a few miles. Or don't use the right oil or gas.
it is a service fluid chnage and some checks no big deal.
You could do it youself if you wanted, but not a bad idea to let some else look it over.
Like HD said Screw it lets ride.

Check your nust and bolts at the dealership BEFORE you leave the parking lot. I had a saddle bag fall off after the softail had some work done.

Also, on the RG be sure at the 1000 mi. they check the front fork bearing and tree nuts. There are issues with the parts not being seated properly at the factory. This is based on info read on other threads and my own RG. INSIST they check it out espically if there is any clunking in the front end while on bumpy surfaces.

Get the service manual and DIY. I contemplated the same thing at 1K; I bought the book and the 1K service was a couple hours time and got me familiar with my bike. Heard too many horror stories of people getting the 1K service and dealer only changing the fluids and not do the rest of the checks but saying that they did. JMHO.
