Just about to hit the 1000 mile mark. Have an appointment next week for the tune up at the dealer. I would like to ride to work this weekend 140 miles round trip. How important is it to get the tune at the 1k mark or could I go over by a couple of hundred miles. Thanks John
Had this same conversation with my dealer yesterday......tried to set up
my 1000 mile service appointment for "as soon as possible". They quoted me
June 13th was first avaliable opening in their schedule. I then askled the service
manager 'how far over 1000 miles am I allowed?'.....cause in a months time I'd
usually have wellover 2000 miles.
Guess I'll just have to curtail my riding for the first month....and thats just going to suck
as I'm picking up my new 08 pewter pearl R/G this morning at 9.

Sorry about the long rant.....enjoy your new ride
Just change the oil and filter. That's what's important. It is as easy as a couple of bolts. Helps to have the filter tool. Use Mobil 1 Syn 15-50 in the crank and primary and Mobil 1 syn 75-140 gear in the transmission. Follow the directions and/orhave a friend help the first time. It's easy.
Don't not ride because you need an oil change, that's silly. Just keep your receipts and take pictures of doing the job if you can.

I agree with others, change your oil yourself. Pick up a service manual as well. After looking it over, you may well find out that you're qualified to do the rest of the service.
