I'm not new to the game and I'm not a moron. I've filled up my new 08 EGC and the gas has splashed every time. The first time it was my fault. Second time still my fault. The third time, it splashed out when it wasn't near full. I have never splashed gas when I had my 02. Is there a secret to filling the new bike??? I've used three different gas stations.
ah think it's a curse on any new bike....ah've purty much gotten ta the point whar when ah've got a new bike, ah bring along a towel, KNOWIN' ah'm gonna spill gas...[:@][:@][:@]
Very aggravating!! I always pump slow. I'm always the last in my group to finish, but I figure it beats cleaning up splashed gas! And I keep a rag handy just in case.
I've done it a few times and it always gets me irately made. When pumping I've found that if I put my index finger between the trigger and nozzle then squeeze the trigger with my other fingers it will prevent me from pumping too fast. Try that and maybe it will help you.

RE: 3 fill up's, 3 splash
I fill mine slowly till the first click, round off the dollar amount, and go. I learned the hard way that trying to top off this '08 tank isn't a good idea.
You aint the only one brother. I thought it was an electraglide thing with the fill hole being over the tank tunnel. I never had this problem with my road king with the hole on the right side. I found that if I stand on the left side of the bike and go slow and easy I can get a full tank without a mess, but if I get in a hurry it's gas everywhere. From the left side I can see into the tank and can monitor how fast the gas is coming out of the pump and how full the tank is. So far so good no more mess since I started filling from the left side.
I thought I was just good at it, til the other day, I have fillled up three times and never spashed gas, but this last time, it splashed something horrible! I guess the key is to take is slow, but I'm usually in a hurry to get back out on the road! Just trying to put the miles on!!! I think slow is the key! I guess timewill tell!
Here in the St. Louis area we have the vapor control deals on the fuel nozzles. On my Sporty I would have to compress the fitting and hold it so that it wouldn't sit on my paint. Still, I could see the gas fill that way and I could fill it right to the top. I tried that on my '08 Standard and had gas going everywhere. Now, I let it click off, and let it go at that. No more topping off for me.

This 08 is the first to boil **** everywhere when filling with gas...and here I thought I was the only one... I have found this to be true for me as well.... I even grab a towel from the windsheild station and wrap it around the base of the filler neck so it wont fly every where, and I PUMP IT AS SLOW AS I CAN....[:@]
