I have the chrome fork mounted wind deflectors and the canvas type engine guard cover's and I can tell alot of difference when it's cold. I think a combination of the above do a real good job, the chrome wind deflectors work, and would buy them again. Hope that helps.

I have the fork deflectors and the one that goes under the trees. Makes alot of difference. Ralley duts down on the turbulance and wind noise.

I don't have metal wind deflectors mounts but I do have the canvas engine guard covers. They, too, work as a wind deflector. They are awesome in cold weather. I am very cautious when using them though. They reflect wind away from me to keep me warm but also reflects air flow away from the engine which could ulitmately cause an overheating problem. I think my engine could really overheat if wasn't cold enough out because they block wind from cooling the engine quite a bit.

bikergirl40, your motor should be safe from heat with the cloth lowers unless you get into some high 80 or low 90 degree temps. I know guys who run the hard lowers on their dressers all summer with no problem...
I have the smoked plastic deflectors on my SEEG and use the cloth lowers on cold & wet days.... They work great

Jay-

I'd say it depends on what kind of bike you're using them on. When I read your post I thought you were referring to the plastic air deflectors that come stock on the Ultra Classic. I had mine on for a few months, then replaced them with Freedom Wings. The FW's are adjustable fr airflow. They are AWESOME! It's like having air conditioning on a dresser. From that moment on I never took them off. In the summer I ride with them open, in the cooler months, I close them completely. I love those damn things...wish I had invented them. I'd be a quad-zillionaire!
