They should be installed from factory.
I AGREE 100%!!! I believe visibility is a NECESSARY prevention.

They're now considered "OBSOLETE" by H-D...and no longer available...but I found the 'saddlebag latch light kit' at a dealership in San Antonio, which provides 'side' running lights that work with turn signals too. Im going to wire the tour pak lights into it also....for turn signal purposes.

My .02 worth...

I agree that it is a big improvement. When riding behind my buddy who has the Harley module I didn't like the fact that the difference between the running lights and the full-on brake was not as noticable as I would like. I have since heard this is a fairly common concern. Oh well, a couple of snips and some soldering and you can "improve" it so the turns are off when running and then all three come on while braking. Took me 10 minutes using a diagram I picked up here. I really like the effect.

I left the amber lens on the turn signals and I think they show up better.

i had the h-d module, but looked as though the turn signals as running lights were to bright. i went with the badlands module from signal dynamics. much more defined and when brakes are applied, you can really see a difference. also has built in load equilizer for leds, cost more but i think it was worth it....

I would be careful with the LED replacement bulb. They tend to light only a small area. HD has the LED tail light assembly. Yes it is expensive (I forgot how much I payed for it) but it looks great and does a much better job of lighting up the license plate. I have also installed the brake/signal lights and really like them. The wife did complain that it was too hard to see the reddirectionalsso I added HyperLites amber 16LED pods. Problem solved.

I like em too. I am thinking about replacing the taillight bulb with the LED repalcement. They have em at Autozone for like $30.00. Others ay not to cuz of the volt/amp changes.
