As I stated in other threads before, I am running a Sony 500 watt amp in my saddle bag with no heat or clipping issues. If you buy an amp that is too small and have to crank the volume clipping will happen, so do it right and buy a big enough one. You won't regret it. I kept the Hog tunes in the fairing and with this amp they came alive. I run 3 to 4 bars on the volume and hear it great at 70 mph.
One thing you will find is that the HK radio is less that steller. Once you reach half volume on the radio it will distort and gain no more volume by turing it up. This is not a speaker issue if you have it. One thing that will help somewhat is to take the bass down...as you are riding down the road you can't hear it anyway.
The bag is wired with quick disconnet Deutsch connector. Unplug one connector and pull the bag pins and it is off.
Total cost:
Sony amp $180.00
Hog Tune speakers $100.00 give or take....don't really remember.
50' speaker wire $20.00
Listening to music going down the highway on my ride...PRICELESS!!!!!!!!
ok, so my stock HD cd radio is gettin worn down and its starting to just not function right.... i'm pretty good with what i'm doin workin on the bike. i've done all my own work on my bike so far and i've done stereo work before, but i'm lookin for what would work best on my eGlide..... i'm not lookin to do all kinds of work. whats the easiest setup to go with if i wanna upgrade my stereo setup??? price matters but doesn't decide overall.... who can tell me the simplest??
if you don't mind losing space in the bags here is a recomendation
1. Alpine PDX 4 channel amp $260 (400 watts)- $360 (600 watts) this amp is relatively small
2. MB quart 5 1/4 speakers for the fairing$80
3. Good head unit Sony, Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer(HD is not going to cut it) $190 to $700 (DVD w/nav)
4. two or four 6x9s Pioneer, MB Quart, Kenwood orRockford Fosgate $120 to $240
The good thing about this is that you can go to one of the box stereos stores and test it all -- then purchase from the bay

OK I have a road king with rumble road self powered speakers. Wodering if it is at all worth buying an amp and replacement 4 inch speakers. The sound I get now is OK, but not Very loud. I will be putting on pipes and may need more. Thanks
I wish I could install my 'ol truck system in my Glide:
Alpine W200/H701 combo
Rainbow PowerLine CS 275.27 up front powered by a Zapco 9.0 (4 ohm)
2 12" SI Mags powered by a Zapco 9.0 (2 ohm)
It's hard to do a "budget" systemin the Glide...but I know it's not worth spending too much. I'll probably refer back to a pair of speakers up front that I consider "bright" like some old BA ProSeries if I can find them. I'll look for an Alpine HU and probably pick up that little Arc Audio mini amp.
I'm not putting anything in my bags...especially, speakers. LOL I can't stand music coming from behind me...you past tense competitors know what I mean! But, who cares about imaging on a bike anyway.
And...my advice, if you set your amp gains properly you should not have any clipping issues. Google it, w/ a DMM and a little bit of math smarts you can do it...its easy!
I could probably sell my HK HU on ebay and pay for the above Glide system.
911, from the measurments I see posted on the specs. It SHOULD fit in the fairing. I'm going to measure this evening and see for sure. If not, I know some guys that are good with fiberglass. So I'm thinking about a prime piece of UNused real estate. UNDER the tourpack, with a custom cover on three sides (with the front end left open for tuning and ventilation.
