hey there, I have some excess valve train noise, I believe its some push rod slack,, I have adjustable pushrods.. at what point should I adjust the pushrode, when the piston is TDC or BDC ? 1993 electraglide, 80" evo
Sudbury huh?? We had a island on the N/W arm of lake Nippising for 45 ears up past the post office in Lavagine...We were across from Back Bay lodge if you go back to the end of the road you could see our Island from the turnaround....
Well, unless HD is some unique design--- you ALWAYS adjust valves (pushrods) at TDC on the COMPRESSION stroke. That's the only way to ensure that the lifters are on the base circles of the cams. At BDC either the exhaust valve will be starting to open or (on the next revolution) the intake won't be quite closed. At TDC on the exhaust stroke both valves will be slightly open.
I think he is refering to top dead center at the lobe of the cam....I watch mine to see when they are down or there at the bottom of the lobe and adjust accordingly

He did say piston. You can't see the cams without removing the cover.
[ul][*][1] Get the rear tire off the ground and the transmission in 5th gear. Install the two intake pushrods only. Do NOT extend them.[/ul][ul][*][2] While holding the front intake pushrod against the lifter, roll the engine until the front intake pushrod is as high as it will go. This will insure that the front intake is full open on the camshaft, and the rear is fully down on the camshaft.[/ul][ul][*][3] Adjust the rear intake pushrod and wait 15 minutes. Then make sure you can roll the rear intake pushrod but there is no up and down play.[/ul][ul][*][4] While holding the rear intake pushrod roll the engine until the rear intake pushrod is all the way up.
