Default XIED

Has anyone got the XIED from night rider. I wanted to get some pipes for my 2007 Road King Classic for a little sound. I have a friend who has PYthonon his bike I like the way they sound. I guess they're not for performance unless the headers are replaced. Anyway I was looking around one day and found night rider.com. they sell what they call XIED that alters your FAR to 13.8.1 which shoudl accomedate changing pipes and without playing around with your ECU or put on a after market air filter system. On their site it keeps referring to this forum I thought I should join and get everyone's input on the MOD.

By the way I am new to biking, after 22 years of sercive in the United States Navy I decided to sell my Boxster S and get me a touring bike. I love riding I can't seem to explain why I waited so long before getting on a Harley. Thanks for any input before I install the XIED and pipes I got (Python's).

Myself , I like the Power Commander. Two reasons, I like to tinker with things and I can never leave anything alone. Power Commander is user friendly and if you have a laptop its a piece of cake to go into the program and tweak maps and find all the ideal conditions for your bike and your setup.

Just stuck a set on my 08 RK. The only thing I "think" is going on differently is it idles faster. I also added a pair of V&H oval slip ons. No other mods. The guy at NightRider says a high flow air filter not needed or warranted. It DOES run cooler though, no doubt about that. No surging or popping through the exhausts.

I have the original IED's and they are a worthwhile mod if you're not going to do more than slip-ons and an intake. I opted for the Stage 1 download too in order to get it to run properly with the filter/pipes when in open loop mode.

Keep in mind that the IED's and the XIED's ONLY work in closed loop mode - which is under 4000 rpm and less than 50% throttle. Once you're in open loop, you will run lean if you don't remap the ECU. I had pinging under hard acceleration (open loop) before the stage 1 download - other have not. I prefer the peace of mind knowing that I'm rich enough in both open and closed loop operation. i also don't need nor want any more power.

By stage one do you mean the SERT or one of the after market products?

I believe that Stage 1 refers to installation of the SE air cleaner, SE performance touring mufflers, and the Stage 1 download. I have all three and the IEDs. The bike runs great; but I can't comment on heat reduction; I haven't been stuck in traffic yet. After 1,000 miles, I notice the exposed part of the front header quite blue, so the bike might still be a bit lean. I'll have to pull the plugs to see what they indicate.

If you think It might be lean with your set-up, you should go up to the XIED's. Expecially with lowers.
