Okay, another newbie here. I've been told that I should go with V & H true duals with Rinehart mufflers on my '08 RKC because Rinehart has been having problems with their headers cracking. Anyone here have any insight on this?
IMO stick with the stock header and slipons or go with a two into one setup. The true duals just don't run well on a V-Twin that is a street bike. They make more horsepower at RPMs you don't drive. TDs also cause the idle to go to crap.

Vance and Hines big shot duals with big sucker and sert. The bikes sounds awesome and will make you realize that stock bikes are a peice of sh*t. Get the duals you will love them.

I am very happy with the V&H dresser duals and ovals. They look great, sound great, and reduce theheat on the rider.

Wow, did you open a can of worms!

I've had way too many turns at playing the "swap the exhaust" game,so here's my two cents:

Do NOT buy slash downs if you want to keep your hearing loss to a minimum.
DO buy V&H True Duals - it does reduce the heat to your passenger shins - somewhat.
V&H TD's did not make a bit of difference on low end or high end performance - on my bike.

My fifth set of muffler's are Rush's#15305's which are the tip compatible. You can use their tips, or the Motor Company's. I chose to use the Motor Company's #65068-98 Howitzer's. My choice of Rush baffles were the2" baffles (and even louder than the Rush #15301 tubes with 1.5" baffles I had before - Slash Downs) (they are for sale). The trick here is the louder baffles were actually quieter (to the riders) than the smaller baffles (in the other tubes I had installed) due to the fact the Howitzer tips gets the sound out behind you. I don't care what anybody says, the further back you can get the sound, the easier it wil be on your ears.

I've had two different sets of slash downs now, and there is something about the sound reflecting off the pavement and back up to the riders. E-way riding for even 1/2 hour grows tiresome.

Not true with the Howitzer's.

Here's the best part - they sound Awesome! Deep-Throaty-Harley Davidson sound!
And - they look great! How do I know how good they sound? EVERYONE tells me so!

I'm waiting for my Rush slip-ons with 2" baffles to arrive....
will also be installing the NightRider XIED's at the same time.
Hopefully this will give my 08 R/G a nice bark, but not
obnoxious.

I installed the V&H ovals (slip ons) on my 08 RKC, loud when you want them loud and quiet (kinda quiet) when touring. I rode 750 miles straight and enjoyed the whole ride from Myrtle Beach to NewYork. I rode down with stock pipes, and all I heard were my buddies, Very annoying. One other benefit was all the attention I got with my new pipes as you can see. We installed the pipes in less then 1/ hour
