I've only got a little over 500 mile son my 08 Street Glide. In a couple of weeks I'm going on a four day ride with some of my buddies. During that time I will end up going over the 1000 miles for my first service. I'm planning on chaning my oil beofr eI go and then getting the 1000 mile service when I get back.
Okay, onto the question. Does anyone know if the new 08's come with standard oil or synthetic oil from the factory? Okay, two questions, if it has standard oil from the factory would it hurt to put synthetic oil in before the 1000 mile service.
Rider it more and get to know her better. You will do both of you good . It will put more miles toward break in, it will seat brakes better, you will learn better balance of your new bike. AND Remember the sweetest music is not played on a new violin !!!
I've been told only the CVO's and VROD's come with synthetic oil from the factory. Also been told you can switch to synthetic at any time. Definitely do a change before your trip - you've got 500 miles worth of break in particles floating around in your current oil. Then do another along with your 1000 mile service when you get back.
All mfg's will advise to put about 5k on before switching to syn oil, reason being that the rings wont seat with syn because it has less friction compounds. Anyone who is in the trade will advise the same thing.
You do not have to wait until 5K to change to Syn and HD does not say or recommend that !! The CVO's come from the factory with Syn 3 in them from day 1 !!!
