Default 1996 ultra miss
Im frustrated, my 1996 ultra runs great for about an hour. After that she starts to spit and sputter and spit black smoke and die. if i let her set a little she will eventually start but i have to hold the throttle open for a few minutes to let it blow itself out and then shes fine for another hour or so. i dont work on bikes, any ideas???????

When it stops and wont start se if you have spark. If you do rebuild/replace the carb, black smoke usuall means rich!!

Sounds like your float valve is sticking open, flooding the carb. I think a carb rebuild will take care of things. Do you see any signs of a fuel leak at the overflow outlet, drain tube or air cleaner?

I finally broke down and put her in the shop. Dealer has ordered a engine temp. sensor.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; i will keep everyone posted.

YEAH!!!!!! i have run out 2 tanks of gas in the last 2 days.&nbsp\\; not problem so far.&nbsp\\; not bad for 298 dollars

As long as she is running and your happy, then that's all that matters. Mine 96 RK fuel-Inj also.
