Default Is it worth it.

Is it worth the money to up-grade toa 6 speed tranny from a 5 speed? If so, whats should I expect in performance as well as what make/brand to buy.

I've thought the same thing and if I were going to do it, I'd go with the Baker DD6. To me you'd have to be doing a lot of highway riding to make it worthwhile. I commute 130 miles a day and 95% of that is interstate, so it would be worth it to me. Then you need to decidehow long you plan on keeping your bike.

I ride alot, but not 130 miles a day. I've had my RK for 8 yrs now and I plan to keep it for a long time come.

I would say no. I have 6 and I think I have used it once. Even going down the highway at 70 mph I do not use it. Probably a preference thing more than a performance issue.

There is more to consider than just the 6 speed. There have been several threads recently about the different 6 speeds that are available, as well as what primary ratio works best with the different 6 speeds. Do a search.

I did the SE 6 in my ultra for one reason only. Those long rides in the areas where you have huge stretches of pavement. It is nice on the plains states / provinces where you can run it up to 80, put her in 6th, then set the cruise. Drops the rpms by about 400.

And yes Baker has a unit that many will say beats anything by HD hands down.

I HAVE AN 07 RG 6 SPEED AND AN O3 ULTRA 5 SPEED... IMO THE 5 SPEED IS A BETTER TRANNY.. EASIER TO SHIFT.. SORTA SOFTER.. AND A LITTLE SLOPPIER..
NEVER SAW THE NEED FOR A 6TH GEAR .. MAYB ITS JUST THAT IM USED TO THE 5 SPEEDS ALL THESE YEARS. IDUNNO.. BUT I STILL LIKE THE 5 SPEED.

It's a lot of money for something rarely used by the average rider. And please, no more scatterbrain stories about riding in sixth gear at less than sixty MPH.
